AAAS Role in AGEP
Since 1998, the AAAS Directorate for Education and Human Resources
(EHR) Programs has provided evaluation capacity building activities
and research resources for the National Science Foundation (NSF)
Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) Program.
Activities include:
- Developing an evaluation framework with the AGEP community to
examine institutional and departmental changes, including changes
in policies, practices, and programs related to graduate student
recruitment, admissions and selection, academic support, progression
to the PhD, and faculty mentoring.
- Periodically collecting and analyzing multi-year graduate student
data, in partnership with staff from Campbell-Kibler Associates
Inc, to examine the progress of AGEP awardees as related
to recruitment, retention, PhD completion and post-PhD employment
of African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Native Americans
in STEM fields.
- Conducting literature searches and providing updates on research
on African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans
in STEM.
- Organizing annual professional development meetings, workshops,
and symposia for the AGEP leadership, including provosts, graduate
deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff. The AGEP Program
includes 22 alliances of doctoral degree granting institutions
and their partners. Eighty-two (82) doctoral degree granting institutions
are involved in one or more alliances.
In addition, EHR staff work with the NSF AGEP Program Director
to organize site visits and reverse site visits.
